About Kala Namak (Fine Black Salt)
Kala Namak also known as Himalayan Black Salt are manufactured from salt mined in the regions surrounding the Himalayas of India. In rock form, it’s violet to black but when ground it’s pink in colour. It has an eggy taste and smell due to its high sulphur and sulphite mineral content. It consists primarily of sodium chloride and traces of various minerals and chemical compounds.
This gorgeous unrefined salt helps enhance the flavours of a dish, it originates from India so it is mainly used in Indian cuisine as a seasoning. It is also catching up with vegan recipes due to its eggy smell and taste. Why not try scramble tofu seasoned with Kala Namak for breakfast!
